The Crocker Art Museum, previously the E. B. Crocker Art Gallery, was established in 18 1985, by E. B. Crocker. It is the longest running museum in the western U.S., with an estimated history of nearly four hundred years. It is located in Sacramento, California.

What is contemporary art? According to Merriam Webster, it is “an art form designed to communicate a specific message”. In other words, it is an artistic style, which is highly expressive and creative. It was created by an artist, who deliberately makes use of many different methods, materials, and media in expressing his or her view or message to the world.
The major movements of contemporary art include impressionism, contemporary art, modern art, cubism and Fauvism. Impressionism, as we know it today, emerged late in the 19th century, during the period of the First World War. Impressionism represented the side of art towards reality, which portrayed ordinary objects (or their parts) in highly exaggerated and distorted form. In the early 1970s, this was followed by the major movements in modern art. Cubism and Fauvism represented a departure from the Impressionist style, while expressionism became popular in the late 1890s.

The term “art” refers to the ability of an artist to produce work that appeals to others as being artistically creative and/or aesthetically desirable. There are many different approaches to the definition of art and what it means to an artist. These include the general definition used by most professional philosophers and aestheticians, who tend to describe art more in terms of the human need to recognize beauty in nature, in the construction of things that we use, and in the ability of some people to perceive beauty in things that they encounter.
Philosophy and aesthetics also tend to use the term art to describe the ability of some people to relate to beauty and the idea of beauty in general. The belief that beauty is objective and timeless has been around since the start of time, and aesthetic theories are predicated on the idea that beauty is seen in the eye of the beholder.
